Structure of AOT reverse micelles under shear.

چکیده
Reverse micelles in the AOT/water/isooctane system, at various water contents (W(0)), were studied using rheometry and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) experiments under static conditions and under shear. The SAXS analysis confirmed the spherical shape of the micelles at low water content and revealed a transition into elongated micelles at higher water content. A population of spherical micelles was found to coexist with the cylindrical ones, even above the percolation threshold. The shape transformation was correlated with a viscosity leap observed in the rheometry measurements. Reverse micelles at low water content under shear act as a Newtonian fluid, without any detectable shape changes. In contrast, reverse micelles at high water content behave as a shear thinning fluid. SAXS measurements at high water content under shear force have shown that the shear forces induced alignment of the cylindrical micelles in the flow direction, without any other changes in the micelle dimensions. The anisotropy parameter, a measure of the degree of the spatial order, was found to increase with increasing water content and shear rate.

Structure modifications of AOT reverse micelles due to protein incorporation.
Structural modifications of AOT/water/isooctane reverse micelles due to incorporation of proteins were studied at various water contents and protein concentrations, using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) experiments under static conditions, rheometry analysis, and SR-SAXS experiments under induced shear flow. Two proteins, lysozyme (pI 11.1, Mw 14,300 Da) and BSA (pI 4.3, Mw 66,700 Da), were...
متن کاملTo probe the structure of methanol and Aerosol OT (AOT) in AOT reverse micelles by FTIR measurements.
We have reported the study of methanol/AOT/n-heptane reverse micellar aggregates using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. We have divided our whole work into two parts. In the first part we have studied the structural properties of Aerosol OT (AOT) reverse micelles by monitoring the changes in the symmetrical sulfonate stretching region (1000-1100 cm(-1)), asymmetrical sulfonate st...
متن کاملComparison Between Aqueous and Nonaqueous AOT-Heptane Reverse Micelles Using Acridine Orange as Molecular Probe
Aqueous and nonaqueous AOT/n-heptane reverse micelles where characterized by UV-Visible and fluorescence spectroscopy of AO. The study shows the presence of the dimer in aqueous reverse micelles which is not present in the nonaqueous systems. It seems that there is a conversion of the dimer to monomer in the aqueous reverse micelles at high AOT concentration. In the nonaqueous systems, there is...

In this contribution, we study the effect of confinement on the ultrafast electron transfer (ET) dynamics of riboflavin binding protein (RBP) to the bound cofactor riboflavin (Rf, vitamin B2), an important metabolic process, in anionic sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate reverse micelles (AOT-RMs) of various hydration levels. Notably, in addition to excluded volume effect, various nonspecif...
متن کاملWater dynamics--the effects of ions and nanoconfinement.
Hydrogen bond dynamics of water in highly concentrated NaBr salt solutions and reverse micelles are studied using ultrafast 2D-IR vibrational echo spectroscopy and polarization-selective IR pump-probe experiments performed on the OD hydroxyl stretch of dilute HOD in H(2)O. The vibrational echo experiments measure spectral diffusion, and the pump-probe experiments measure orientational relaxatio...
